The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the men who were killed and injured in an industrial accident Monday night.

Deputies say the accident happened at SPX Transformer Solutions, Inc. on U.S. 117 in Goldsboro around 6 p.m. Monday.

Deputies say Dennis Martin, 51 of Goldsboro, and Daniel Craig Anderson, 33 of Dudley, were both killed. William Saviak, 40 of Dudley, is currently in the ICU at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The state Department of Labor says their preliminary investigation shows that one worker fell into the transformer space and the other two went in to help him.

Spokesman Neil O’Briant says they believe the injuries were caused by a confined space issue–something in the atmosphere was lethal or because of a lack of oxygen.

SPX Transformer Solutions, Inc. is one of the largest manufacturers of power transformers in the United States.

The company has been fined four times since 2001 for workplace violations, while in 2012 a worker was electrocuted. O’Briant says SPX was not cited in that fatality.

At the end of October, there had been 35 work related fatalities in the state investigated by the Labor Department, compared to 37 for the same time period last year.
